Late Nights with Gerard Emmanuel- The Diet Talk Show.
hello there, fellow readers.

today, we shall talk about your diet.
now, i know it can get really boring at the sight of the word DIET, but trust me, it is not going to be about me telling you how i wanna lose fats and become anorexic. really.
we are going to talk about what is right for you. yes, you there staring at my blog.

so anyway, my dear fren Gery Emmanuel has this really stringent regimen on what he eats and stuff. (from protein shakes to sandwiches every 3 hours)
and i can really see that he looks so much healthier, fit and radiant. so i was wondering how it happened.
then he told me this entire process of how he came to be what he was now but by the time he completed his story, my jaw was near the ground.
tedious the process may seem, but wow, it is kinda inspiring.
when i told some (esp momok) about how i wanted to follow a strict healthy-lifestyle diet just like gery, she gave me that are-you-insane face.

gery's hypothesis (pro-diet):
you are what you eat. you eat shit, you become one. would you rather live short and miss out the good things at a later part of your life or make more effort now and have a lasting youthful, wrinkle-free lifespan? dont be stupid.
momok's hypothesis (anti-diet):
life is short. eat what you want now. you never know when you might just die. would you rather live short but know you have lived to the fullest or live long but feel unfulfilled? dont be stupid.

well yea, i dont wanna be stupid of cos but whatever choice i make, it seems that i will be to either one of you right?
so i guess i will try gery's hypothesis for the first half of my life to gain lifespan.
After which, i'll take momok's idea for the rest of the half cos i am near death by then anyway so i'll just eat all i want. good idea? yea, i thought so too.
if there are unforeseen deaths like car accidents or lightning electrocution, the above mentioned is void.

back to gery's inspirational talk about healthy diet.
it is so very true that people nowadays have a misconception that diet means to slim down and look like some model (male or female alike) so you can walk like the breeze next to tyra banks. no no no.
diet, in its rightful term, means to have a healthy proportion of your macronutrients and vitamins according to your height or weight.
so when i say: "i'm on a diet", it does not mean that i am trying to be thinner. i am merely being more conscience about my portions for meals. ok? good, so moving on...

for us humans (any shape, size, color, religion), we need to take note of the things we eat.
to ensure a healthy diet, one should take in all essential nutrients and calories daily.
by nutrients, i mean your macronutrients (c'mon. we learn about this in structural bio, peeps). They can be classified into:
Protein (animal source are better as they contain full sets of amino acids. soy is the only veg source that contain complete amino acid set so you may take that too.)
Carbohydrates (take unrefined carbs like wholemeal or brown rice. refined carbs has all the goodness taken away.)
Fats (do not scrap fats totally. a lil of it will be good.)
(no nucleic acid ah. how to consume that?)

As for calories, the right amount to take in should be about 1000 kCal for small people like me and for the average people, it is about 1400 kCal.
any more than that becomes fats, any less than that causes energy reduction.
but of course, that depends according to other things like the individual's metabolism rate and stuff.

i think he is a powerful counsellor because as of now, i have no interest for smoking or shisha anymore. i remember those times where i went home feeling so guilty after those lung destruction sessions but i just wake up forgetting my guilt and doing the same old routine again. so this is it.
this is the phase of your life where whatever you do makes you what you become for the rest of your life. (:
